REFUSE/RESIST/REDUCE/REUSE/RECYCLE AND BEYOND

REFUSE/RESIST/REDUCE/REUSE/RECYCLE AND BEYOND

Jack Johnson - The 3 R's

Growing up in Pakistan the notion of Recycling was very vague, it was a conversation but in reality, what was not of any use to me became somebody else and from there on it would soon end up in a landfill on the outskirts of the city, where the children of the forgotten and the downtrodden would try and salvage what could be reused if not sold, some even choosing to live better part of their marginalised lives in the landfills.
Possibly my first reality check was when I held my newly born daughters, I wanted to make some difference for them, educate them and lead as an example.
In this journey, what I observed essentially sets an undertone to all my words…I saw over consumption, it was uncanny how each time a new fad came in, we shifted our opinions, our choices changed like the days of the week. We had accepted this pattern of how advertisers would shape how we allocated our weekly budgets… through this pattern I hypothesised what would be my first lesson, and it did not begin with Reduce it began with an angst “Refuse!” THOU SHALT NOT! I had to somehow make myself and then others realise the unnecessary paradigm of Necessary as advertised, followed by “Resist” to understand that it was important not to give in followed by “Reduce” “Reuse” and then “Recycle”.
With the Millions spent on product development there are Millions spent on finding ways to make that product profitable with research on market trends and sweet spots for consumption, with people standing in lines for days at end for the new iPhone or the kind when the need is not present, corporations funding awareness for “Green” by making sure their sales don’t drop. I am not criticising the Business; my issue is with the consumer and the educator.
Educate Resistance before it is too late.

TYPE 0 CIVILIZATION

TYPE 0 CIVILIZATION   Michio Kaku 3 types of Civilizations TYPE 0 CIVILIZATION As we humans fight for sustainability and survival of our species on this planet, we need to understand that the human race is at a crucial point of its evolutionary process. While we are helping to prolong life, create medicine and robots, increase our knowledge and energy sources we are also sucking our planet dry of all the natural resources that it has for us. One of the most fascinating aspect of science is its faith in trusting the proof. And all the same time also having the ability to visualise things that are not yet proven. Hence working together with what has been proven and what can be proven. And based on today’s technological advancements, A LOT has been proven as far as the human ability to Create is concerned and A LOT can be conceived and anticipated; things and ideas that used to be in the paradigm of magic or science fiction once are now EXIST! The downside of it all ...

BIOMIMICRY

https://www.ted.com/talks/michael_pawlyn_using_nature_s_genius_in_architecture USING NATURE'S GENIUS IN ARCHITECTURE We have a lot to learn from nature, with over 4 billion years of evolution nature can be a source of infinite knowledge and wisdom, scientists are already trying to make connections and find ways to integrate the highly efficient systems found in nature in our daily lives, what nature can do with limited resources and in a closed loop providing us with examples of a highly sustainable and efficient examples, which can be a direction for us to partake. These ventures into exploring the fantastic world are integral in our journey to finding a sustainable solution and securing our future. Michael Pawlyn’s talk on biomimicry was one of my first Ted Talks, one that would prove to be for me a realization, the humbling understanding of how with so much intelligence and understanding we are still leaps and bounds away from the whimsical and symphonic harmony of natu...
