Nature
is not just pretty pictures, it is a path to solving our resource problems and
not limited to just that, it has been solving and evolving through the issues
we are currently grappling with.
Janine
Benyus just shows us some examples of how simple nature has inspired some giant
advances in our time, and encourages us to explore and step up to look at what
surrounds us while attempting to resolve problems, most likely nature could not
only provide us with the muse but the cure as well.
Biomimicry
has applications and integrations all over our context, from fabrics and
materials to storage and consumption of resources, with our growing concerns
for sustainability, simple codes in nature could provide us with answers, all
we need is vigilance and an open mind.
“What's happening now, in this
field called biomimicry, is that people are beginning to
remember that organisms, other organisms, the rest of the natural
world, are doing things very similar to what we need to do. But in
fact, they are doing them in a way that have allowed them to live
gracefully on this planet for billions of years. So, these people,
bio mimics, are nature's apprentices. And they're focusing on
function. What I'd like to do is show you a few of the things that
they're learning. They have asked themselves, "What if, every
time I started to invent something, I asked, 'How would nature solve
this?'"”

We
have come a long way, from ape to masters of the world, making dams and
controlling rivers to cutting down mountains. We have build new islands in the
oceans and made cities in deserts with grass and lakes, but now we need to
learn how to co-exist with nature, find a balance without exploitation.
What
ever we are sourcing comes from the Earth, and if we don’t stop and invest in
our future by conserving and protecting our planet or we could come to a point
where the well could dry up.
